Zach's Place is a respite center named in memory of a foster child with disabilities, whose mother had no resources for respite and had to put him in foster care. Zach's place was established to provide families in the Colorado Springs and surrounding areas a place for respite care for their children with disabilities ages 5 to 21. Zach's Place offers structured and free play. It also teaches life skills and socialization skills. Special Kids Special Families Sponsors Zach's place. Zach's Place provides respite (temporary time apart for you and your child) in a home-like environment for children and adolescents. At this time, Special Kids Special Families is the sole provider of comprehensive respite and relief care to families that have children with disabilities. Having children with disabilities of their own, the two founding mothers understand the demands of daily life and the different stresses of raising children with special needs. History of Zach's Place
Zach's place was founded 1998 by Linda Ellegard and Linda Rivera. Prior to Zach's Place, options were limited for parents and often resulted in out-of-home placement. Zach's Place provides an immediate option for care, where the child remains in the loving care of his or her natural family, and the family is able to keep their relationship well nourished.
